Transforming Youth Futures Through Construction Training

In a powerful response to rising youth unemployment, the National Skills & Technical College (NSTC) has partnered with the Construction Education and Training Authority (CETA) to launch a Short Skills Training Programme in 2025. This initiative aims to equip 50 unemployed youth in Middelburg with accredited, practical skills in key construction trades.

What the NSTC–CETA Short Skills Programme Offers

The programme is built around hands-on, accredited training, with an emphasis on real-world job readiness in the construction and built environment sectors.Core Training Areas Include:

  • Basic bricklaying and plastering
  • Carpentry and roofing
  • Plumbing and drainage
  • Health and safety in construction

Training is delivered by experienced professionals at NSTC’s accredited facilities, ensuring quality and relevance to current industry needs.

Who Can Apply?

This opportunity is for unemployed youth in Middelburg who meet the following criteria:

  • Completed Grade 10 or higher
  • South African citizen with certified ID (within 3 months)
  • First-time participant in any CETA programme
  • Demonstrates interest in construction trades
  • Willing to be deployed anywhere in the district

Priority will be given to:

  • Women
  • Persons with disabilities
  • Previously disadvantaged individuals
