University of Johannesburg’s CATHSSETA-Funded Arts & Culture Internship Programme 2025–2026

The University of Johannesburg (UJ), in partnership with the Culture, Art, Tourism, Hospitality, and Sport Sector Education and Training Authority (CATHSSETA), is offering a dynamic Arts & Culture Internship Programme for the 2025–2026 cycle.

This exciting opportunity is designed for recent graduates who want to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world professional experience. Through mentorship, hands-on projects, and exposure to UJ’s vibrant Arts & Culture Division, interns will build valuable industry skills, expand their professional network, and enhance their employability.

Internship Details

  • Start Date: December 2025
  • Duration: 12 months
  • Monthly Stipend: R5,000 (subject to statutory deductions)
  • Total Positions Available: 17
  • Location: University of Johannesburg, South Africa

Available Internship Opportunities

1. Copywriting Internships – 4 Positions

As a copywriting intern, you will create engaging written content for social media campaigns, adverts, media releases, magazines, and online platforms.

Skills you will develop:

  • Creative writing and storytelling
  • Content planning and organisation
  • Computer literacy and online publishing

Minimum Requirements:

  • Postgraduate degree or higher
  • Qualification in Journalism or Copywriting from a public university

2. Multimedia Internships – 10 Positions

Multimedia interns will gain hands-on experience in content animation, social media advertising, archiving, video production, editing, and creating showreels.

Skills you will develop:

  • Filmmaking and animation techniques
  • Creative design and visual storytelling
  • Innovation and media production

Minimum Requirements:

  • Postgraduate degree or higher
  • Qualification in Multimedia from a public university

3. Performing Arts Administration Internships – 2 Positions

In this role, interns will assist with administrative functions, programme coordination, and project planning within performing arts.

Skills you will develop:

  • Event planning and coordination
  • Communication and stakeholder management
  • Organisational and problem-solving abilities

Minimum Requirements:

  • Postgraduate degree or higher
  • Qualification in Performing Arts from a public university

4. Hospitality Internship – 1 Position

The hospitality intern will focus on Front-of-House (FOH) operations, including venue management, bar and coffee shop duties, stakeholder communication, and event coordination.

Skills you will develop:

  • Customer service and guest relations
  • Event operations and teamwork
  • Communication and problem-solving

Minimum Requirements:

  • Postgraduate degree or higher
  • Qualification in Hospitality Management from a public university
